Oktober!
Hallo! We are several days into our return trip to Germany, and I have had some incredible times and some that are laughably uncomfortable. Take today for example, we got off our bus this morning to find ourselves playing at a venue in the heart of the red light district of Hamburg. Now I have to say, there are absolutely beautiful parts of this city, and the venue staff and our promoter are sweet as sugar, but so are the hookers and whips you can buy two doors down. Hmmm. Assuming people still come to the show, I might feel a little silly singing about things as innocent as Fairytales. But at least I talk about the fact that Cinderella could have a drinking problem. Now that's street cred. We have just come from Cologne for a headlining show which was incredibly good fun, and a day off which was much needed. The show was packed and I still can't seem to get over the fact that we are halfway around the world and hundreds of people come to hear us play! Das is Geil!! Thanks to all who came out and made it such a fun night. Especially the guy that gave me a Wrestling Championship Belt with my name on it. And no, I'm not joking. I wandered away the Sunday with beautiful Gothic Cathedrals, Bratwurst, the Rhine river, (Daniel's last name, dudes) and a bowling alley that should have been open but it wasn't. Boo to that. But yay to a great dinner with friends and a good night's sleep. Our German adventure started in a beautiful city named Baden Baden, for the New Pop Festival. We played a sold out show to over 2000 people and the whole festival transformed this already beautiful city into a little fairytale world. Red carpets on the streets, twinkle lights everywhere, gorgeous old buildings lit up from the outside with purple, pink and blue lights. It was like an inside out disco ballroom, in a really good way. I have to work on my metaphors. Oh! And I went horseback riding in the Black Forest and had lunch in a castle while the horses grazed nearby. How's that for Fairytale!? Woohoo! We have a show tonight in Hamburg, and then it's off to Berlin, and finally Munich to sample a little bit of Oktoberfest! I'll make sure to post some pictures that hopefully capture the essence of it. I imagine we're pretty much going to act like idiots. That needs documentation. A big thank you to all who support us and this music here in Germany. Especially our amazing brother Felix who lives with us when we come here. We have made some wonderful friends and had some unforgettable experiences and will always look forward to getting to come back to this amazing country. cheers!! xoxoo s
Vegimightmovehere
I might move here. Not really, but i wouldn't mind it if it happened. We arrived in Australia six days ago and they're not joking when they say "You'll love it here." I know that's not much of a catch phrase, and they don't actually say that in any sort of formal way, I was just thinking that if you happen to meet an Aussie at any point in your life and they happen to have said "you'll love it here" they probably wouldn't have been joking. Because I really love it here, and I would think it's not really a JOKING sort of thing to say, well, I don't know, Anyway... I'm changing my name to McCauley. I'll show you why. This is my new best friend, McCauley. And everybody knows that best friends have to have the same name. :) Thanks to our awesome Zoo hosts, Jane, Amy and Gabe, we had close encounters with Koala Bears, kangaroos, wallabies, stick-bugs, and a possum that was in a knit cap. stopit. so. cute. Spent the entire day geeking out on the animals down under, and acting like little kids at the Taronga Zoo. Highly recommend that. :) So now you know how we spent the whole of our day yesterday... But we have already done loads of awesome things like opening a show for the incredible Newton Faulkner here in Sydney, and I played on Australian Dancing with the Stars. We have wandered the botanical gardens in both Melbourne and Sydney, and I have met all sorts of wonderful radio and tv hosts who are playing Love Song and Bottle it Up for people down under! Overall, australia has been unbelievable. The people are warm, and friendly, the scenery is outrageous and the accent is dreamy. I really do love it here. we will be leaving in just a couple of days (boo) but heading to London (yay)! I really just wanted to check in and show off the fact that I met a Koala bear. don't be jealous. Or do. I don't care. He's MY friggin' best friend. so there. :) s
hello and why don't I write more?
Hi sweet peeps. (you are my little yellow marshmallow things at Easter. Congratulations.) I'm just wanting to say a quick hello and I love you and holy sh*t this is the coolest tour ever. We are almost at the end of our little honeymoon tour with Counting Crows and Maroon 5. I can't say enough good things about how inspired i feel, and how grateful i am for having been able to be a part of this tour. We are performing at these huge beautiful Amphitheaters which are usually positioned a good little jaunt outside a major city, which makes running errands and doing normal city things really difficult, but it breeds boredom, which breeds friendship. :) It's so crazy, but if you think about it, the actual amount of time we spend on stage is a very small percentage of the day. We are literally like a bunch of kids at summer camp but without the cool activities like archery to take up our time. So we throw frisbees and sit in dressing rooms and eat way too much and laugh and actually get to know each other. I think this is my favorite summer camp ever. Adam Duritz introduced himself to us the very first night of the tour and after I regained my composure after meeting my hero, he went on to introduce us on stage every single night of the tour. And as if that wasn't enough, he invited us on stage multiple times to sing with the Crows on their song, "Hanging Around". Best. Camp. Ever. We visited the site of the original Woodstock of 69 in Bethel, NY and I was truly moved in ways that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I got to stand in the literal footprints of Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin and meet my new friend Duke who was basically a hippy who came to that concert and never left. Hi Duke. You da man. I'm doing my best to enjoy the roller coaster of it all. I'm not always a happy sunshine camper, as I wish I was, but I'm learning that the down times come with a beauty that I'm being challenged to find. I get lonely sometimes, and I still have to remember to relax and stop trying to control everything. I have days where I don't feel like singing at all, and sometimes the show actually fixes that. Sometimes it doesn't. But I guess in the ups and downs I keep setting my sights on the tippy tops of the ride. Those are the most fun, and you have to take them when they come. I send you all love and so much gratitude. You are friends and truly a huge part of this whole journey. Off to the crafts table. I'm making you a potholder out of those plastic ring things that keep soda cans together and used popscicle sticks. I'm pretty sure you'll find a place for it. love yuins. xoxoxo s ps. We're making plans for our stage set up for the fall tour. I can't say much now, but omgeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!! it's gonna be awesome. :)
